Part 1: Faulkner’s Noble speech did not touch me. Maybe for the fact I am not a writer nor have ever had the inclination to be. Or maybe I just see it, as too lengthy a speech at a time where a simple “thank you” is all I ask for. Therefore I cannot agree or disagree with his thoughts. It a moot point in my mind. As far as his challenge goes, I don’t care. I’m not a writer; once again he has fallen on deaf ears. As far as my story is concerned, I can’t tell what in God’s name Faulkner expects from me. Does he want my protagonist to be scared that the world? To fall in love or to lust after what is not his to lust? I’m confused. My story is not about a group of friends who work at a theme park and share the stories of the crazy things that happen to them throughout the day. I’m to trying to write a grandiose existential coming of age Oscar-worthy melodrama. I’m just trying to entertain people for a half hour once a week.
Part 2: When you first meet Sammy, he seems like a very mousey character. Once the 3 girls are introduced he take a turn. Suddenly the young girls, and most definitely lusting over the leader of the group turn him on. He didn’t interest me at all. Well until he quit his job. That was completely out of left field.
